Are you sitting comfortably? Then let the fireworks begin.
For this weekend sees two fascinating matches, which won’t decide where the Rugby World Cup ends up come 31st October, but might give us some pointers.
Any student of the game knows that South Africa v New Zealand is always something special. Brutal & skillful in equal measure, with passions always running high. This is THE game for the Bokke and as a potential RWC semi-final preview, there is more than a little spice to this one. Will the winner go on to win the Webb Ellis Trophy? Not necessarily. But it will give them an enormous lift.
Much will depend on how debutant fly half Lima Sopoaga goes on Saturday for the ABs, but after a stellar season with the Highlanders, he’ll relish the South African back row coming round the corner trying to knock him back in to the Dark Age. Probably.
Even though its on TV at 3.05am in New Zealand, it’ll probably get the biggest viewing figures of the year, barring the World Cup, and as neutrals, we cant wait to watch it at a more civilised hour.
But don’t forget the other game – Argentina v Australia. The Pumas at home are a different proposition to having to travel, and after their win last week, we’ll get to see whether the Aussies have the mindset to travel and win against quality opposition.
So put your feet up, stay close to the beer fridge, and brace yourself for some big hits and quick hands. It’s going to be fun, people.
